Overseas Sourcing: Minimize the Headaches

Is your organization currently outsourcing or thinking about outsourcing finished products, subassemblies or components to an overseas factory? Does your organization think beyond product features and price? Does your organization have a process for evaluating factory capabilities to produce goods that will meet your specifications?

In this presentation Ed will share the processes that he used when visiting and evaluating factories on four continents. The presentation includes a system for evaluating the manufacturing and quality processes at factories, from the receipt of raw materials to packing and shipping. Human rights issues and product testing protocols will also be addressed.

What are the customer situations that make you or your organization squirm? How do you deal with a difficult customer? How do you tell a customer something that (s)he may not want to hear?

The words you choose in a difficult situation can make or break the interaction. This highly interactive session will discuss some of the proper words to use and those to avoid at all costs. It will also help you create strategies your organization can use to handle those tough situations.

Working Across Cultures

This session explores how people from different cultures are likely to react in a business setting. The cultural dimensions work of Geert Hofstede and Edward Hall will be explained. These dimensions, as they relate to each culture, will be discussed and compared to the U.S. culture. Areas of possible conflict will be mentioned.
